Apologists and partisans of those who are waging war against the Irish Government are endeavoring to justify them by identifying them with the effort of the man of 1916.
There is neither analogy nor identity between the two episodes. The men of 1916 rose against a Government. The irregulars are to-day making war on a native Government. The men of 1916 rose against a Government which derived all its authority from England. The irregulars are waging war against a Government which derives all its power and authority form the Irish people.
