Tralee Mercury

The Tralee Mercury 14.02.1829 Prospectus Extract “The state of the Press in the County has been long a source of surprise to some and a subject of regret to others. It is true that a liberal and independent local Journal has been up to this time a desideratum in Kerry. It is equally true, there do exist here two things called newspapers.- Of one, little is known beyond the precincts of the conventicle, or the board-room in Kildare place. It is a question whether even the sweet voice of a certain celebrated Master may have insinuated it so far; although it must be confessed that the whimming fanaticism and cringing venality of a slave is not unfrequently seconded by the congenial instincts of its employers. Of the other what shall we say? What can be said? Nothing! “
