The Guardian is the longest established and best known local newspaper circulating in North Tipperary. First established on Saturday July 21 1838 as The Nenagh Guardian, the paper has recorded many momentous events over the last 17 decades, from the Great Famine and mass emigration of the nineteenth century, through two world wars, the struggle for independence and civil war in the emergent Irish state, and on to the economic boom at the turn of this century. The paper remains one of the oldest news publications in circulation anywhere in Ireland. n 1928 The Guardian incorporated the Nenagh News and Tipperary Vindicator newspapers. The complete archives of all three titles will be available on The Guardian's website www.nenagh-guardian.ie, which was redeveloped and re-launched in September 2008.
