The Carlow Morning Post was established by Richard Price, a well know journalist of the day. It was a highly influential newspaper at the time, Mr Price was in the process of moving the title to Dublin when he died very suddenly.  Thomas H. Carroll was appointed editor but the newspaper went into decline later rebranding briefly as the Leinster Independent before closing in 1840. The newspaper was later revived by Richard's brother, Thomas in 1853 before finally ceasing publication in 1878 upon Thomas's death.
